This was one of the first artworks I made directly

This was one of the first artworks I made directly on newspaper as surface, around 2003 to 2006.

Newspaper has an instant effect of placing the subject within a political, social and historical context, which can have informative value to the viewer when looking at the artwork even years after completion.

I used to hang out a lot with informal recyclers during those years. The second photograph was taken by my friend @christoharveyinsta Look how young! Now if there were a newspaper background behind me...
