This Friday, 17 April will be the Collectors Dinne

This Friday, 17 April will be the Collectors Dinner, and exhibition for the fundraising art auction in May, presented by the Institute of Healing Memories (IHOM) in partnership with Joburg Child Welfare (JCW), at Joburg Artist Market (27 Boxes).

The exhibition will feature works generously donated by the MTN foundation, including the Commemorating Sophiatown portfolio, with pieces by internationally acclaimed @nelsonmakamo alongside works from @indoniarts , myself, @philemon_xamu_hlangwani and more.

All proceeds from the Collectors Dinner will support the programmes of IHOM and JCW funding child protection services, as well as trauma healing and psychosocial support initiatives.

@the_lizels is the proud new owner of “Before the Storm VI”, the only artwork in my Before the Storm miniature series that’s not “normal”. But what is “normal”? I slipped in an “unidentified flying object” in the skies above the pool of water, and that’s why, Lizel says, she likes it. Because it’s different. Thank you for supporting me, @the_lizels and for all the other atists who did like-wise at this year’s Klein Karoo National Arts Festival. The amount of support I received from fellow artists through sales (and other more ephemeral stuff) was absolutely amazing. What a generous and encouraging environment to be in, and, I think, unique to the world of mid-career visual artists. You’re a jolly old lot. Hooray to the artists of the world!
Thanks Lizel and @alexyaya51 for your hospitality and for letting me into your lives. My time with you was unforgettably special. You are a pair of bright shining stars. 💚

Walkabout on Saturday at 11am for Place/Plek, a group show of the past 30 year’s KKNK festival artists. Saturday is the last day of the festival. Come and check out this one and other amazing visual art exhibitions as well.

This little lion forms part of my miniature series on the show. These landscapes and animals came into being after my art residency at the Lion Sands game reserve, end of last year.
